Though easy to happen, the deli has served some of the best sandwiches the 419 has had in 15 years.

TOLEDO, Ohio – A small building next to a parking lot on Jackson Street is a sandwich shop selling calming deli classics.

The family run joint is take away only and the owners will quickly get you what you need and go where you need to go.

The best sandwich, in the humble opinion of this writer, is the rocket – packed full of hearty, thinly sliced pastrami, a mountain of corned beef and smothered with spicy mustard, a delicatessen lovers dream.

But Roman’s isn’t just a one-hit wonder, the chicken salad feels right at home, with the perfect balance of sweet and savory with just the right amount of bite from the splash of red onion.

Although the sandwiches are heavy, the bread never seems to stall. Meals are never moist and all the bread needs is a light toast.

Roman’s also has a small bakery for those looking for a treat. There are pieces of cake for that sweet tooth and classic meat patties for those who feel something savory.

What the store lacks in shine, it certainly makes up for in quality and character.

The tiny, white building that has now been modernized and painted with bright green tendrils could easily be missed if you just walk by. Be sure to keep your eyes open though, as Roman’s Deli is definitely worth a visit.

The deli is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It is located at 526 Jackson Street in downtown Toledo.

There is no official website, but you can follow the shop on Facebook and Instagram to keep up to date with the latest events.
