David M. Shemek, 69, of Columbus, died at the Boone County Health Center in Albion on April 17, 2021.
The Christian burial mass will take place on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Bonaventure in Columbus. The tour takes place on Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm at the McKown Funeral Home. The tour continues on Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in St. Bonaventure Church. The funeral will take place at All Saints Cemetery, followed by lunch at the Eagles Club.
Thursday’s mass service will air on McKown Funeral Home’s Facebook page.
David Martin Shemek was born on November 21, 1951 in Columbus, Nebraska, to Martin and Dorothy (Niedzwiecki) Shemek. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1971 and attended Central Community College. Dave worked for the Nielsen Chevrolet-Buick Company for 39 years and then for the Ernst Auto Center in the sales and leasing department until he retired in 2014. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, the Wagner Lake Committee, and Cactus. Dave enjoyed four wheeling on the river, Husker Sports and his dog Baxter. Since his retirement, Dave has struggled with the effects of the West Nile Virus.
He is survived by his brother Eric (Corinne) Shemek of Duncan, Nebraska; Brother Terry Shemek of Columbus, Nebraska; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Dorothy Shemek; and sister Susan Shemek.
