Culinary Youth Olympics cook-off held at Columbus Conference and Commerce Heart


COLUMBUS, Georgia (WTVM) – 15 Muscogee District students met today at the Convention and Trade Center for the Youth Olympic Culinary Games.

The children learned from Chef Christopher Walters in the Trade Center. They visited the food sponsors to get ingredients and went back to the trading center to see the cook off.

They were hired to grill hamburgers and hot dogs. They were then judged on their dishes and the winners walked away with new mini grills.

The winning team consisted of Erik Cabrera, Camille Bennett, Lacie Watts and Hayden Barefield.

“My part of that is the front of the house, the customer service. How to serve guests. How to greet guests, safety while serving. A little bit of everything when it comes to when the guest comes in until the guest leaves. I want them to have a great service experience that is sustainable … because first impressions are lasting, ”said Willie Jones, Banquet Manager at Columbus Convention & Trade Center.

The winning team’s hot dog will be presented in Frank’s Alley in August.
