Columbus, Ga. (WRBL) – Musicians and jugglers are looking forward to the comeback of this lively event. Strut the Hooch, an annual Columbus parade, takes to the streets again after COVID-19 delays in 2020.
Strut The Hooch is a self-proclaimed “goofy” parade with crazy costumes and family fun. The event was founded in 2015 and takes place annually with the exception of the last year.
Steve Scott, the founder of Strut the Hooch, said the parade faced four delays in 2020. Although the effects of COVID-19 temporarily affected this event, Scott is excited to continue with the annual parade now and believes this will be the largest turnout to date.
“I think people are ready to go back to some sense of normalcy,” said Scott. “You have pent-up energy and are ready to roll. I don’t understand why we couldn’t have at least 500,000 people in the parade this year. “
Scott was born in Mobile, Al. where he attended Mardi Gras, along with high school band parades. The vibrancy of these events inspired Scott to hold a similar celebration. By founding Strut the Hooch, Scott managed to bring the energy of his beloved mobile events to the Chattahoochee Valley.
“This is about celebrating life and each other,” said Scott. “I think we have enough meanness and hatred in the world. I wanted an event where we could all come together – of all ages, shapes, sizes, people – and celebrate our talents instead of fighting each other. “
The annual Strut The Hooch Parade is scheduled for September 18 in downtown Columbus. The route begins on 10th Street and 1st Ave. and then runs through Broadway. After the parade there will be an award ceremony in five different costume categories.
