COLUMBUS, GEORGIA
A teenager shot dead in a residence just four blocks west of Columbus’ Lakebottom Park marks the ninth murder in the city that year.
Assistant Medical Examiner Elizabeth Allison pronounced 19-year-old Jaylan Dobbins dead from multiple gunshot wounds at 12:43 a.m.
Dobbins was in a house on 1402 16th Street, Coroner Buddy Bryan said. It wasn’t Dobbins’ home address, said Bryan.
Police in Columbus said officers were called to a shooting there at 12:12 p.m. and paramedics tried to resuscitate Dobbins before he died.
They notified Allison at 12:25 a.m., Bryan said.
The police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Detective Zach Cole at 706-225-4295 or [email protected].
Dobbins’ death is the third murder reported by Columbus that first week of February. The city had six in January.
