COLUMBUS (COLUMBUS BUSINESS FIRST) – There is no Jazz & Rib Festival this year, but the city still wants people to see enough of the barbecue.
Instead of that annual get-together along the Columbus riverside, the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department is instead promoting the Jazz & Rib Fest BBQ Week, July 19-25.
This is not supposed to be a year-long thing. The city said the week will now be the warm-up for the annual festival. The Jazz & Rib Fest is expected to resume next year after a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19.
The city said in the press release it hopes to encourage people to check out new restaurants and establishments this week.
Customers will have to provide their own soundtrack this year.

If you read through this list, crickets are not restricted to carnivores. There are also vegan and vegetarian options.
Restaurants, food trucks and taprooms that have not yet registered can still do this via the Festival website. There are no fees for participation. Participants are also highlighted on the website.
What is the Jazz & Rib Fest now started in 1979 like the jazz in July program. This became the Riverfront Jazz Festival and in 1990 it merged with the UpDowntowners RibFest to form the event known today.
Although the Covid-19 restrictions were lifted this summer, the planning and approval process for major events like the Jazz & Rib Fest takes months. These restrictions were still in place in the spring when planning for the event was required.
Similar problems stopped Red White & Boom for a second year as well as downtown. Other events such as the Columbus Food Truck Festival decided to move from downtown Columbus to a new location in 2021 with plans to return in 2022.
Restaurants, major tourist attractions, and the arts are among the sectors hardest hit by Covid-19. Dozens of restaurants closed last year as restrictions on the restricted sale of businesses. A recovery can only now be seen. Ohio’s art scene appreciate it lost more than $ 136 million as of March 2020.
