Columbus Conference and Commerce Middle to host Youth Culinary Olympics

COLUMBUS, Georgia (WTVM) – Before the kids go back to school, the Columbus Convention and Trade Center wants to celebrate one last hurray.

It is hosting its first Youth Olympic Culinary Games. The event starts tomorrow at 9 a.m.

About 20 students from Muscogee County will meet at the Trade Center. They are then accompanied to the partners who help provide ingredients for a “cook off”. Partners are Frank’s Alley, Hotel Indigo and AC Hotel.

The Trade Center chef, Christopher Walters, who came up with the idea, says that after the children prepare their dishes, they will be judged by a jury.

“It’s going to distract you from the COVID situation here … it’s been a long year and I was dying to do something before you go back to school,” said Christopher Walters, Executive Chef Columbus Trade Center.

“We also see the time has come to bring everyone back together safely. This is an opportunity for students to feel confident as they learn new skills through our culinary program, ”said Director Hayley Tillery.

The kids who win will go home with brand new mini grills from Academy Sports and Outdoors and even receive some gift certificates.
