Columbus Blue Jackets’ striker Nathan Gerbe is expected to be sidelined four to six months after hip replacement, the team said on Saturday.
Gerbe tweeted a photo of his hospital bed on Friday and gave a thumbs up.
“Obstacles are neither good nor bad. Like a cup is neither good nor bad, ”he wrote. “Depends on what you fill it with #recovery #challenges”
This is the latest surgery for Gerbe, 34, who had multiple injuries over the course of his career. In 2019 alone, he underwent an operation to repair his hip labrum and bilateral hernia operations.
The Buffalo Sabers selected the 5-foot-4 tanner in the fifth round of the 2005 NHL Draft. In 435 career games with the Sabers (2008-13), Carolina Hurricanes (2013-16) and Blue Jackets (2017-18, 2019-21), he has 151 points (63 goals, 88 assists).
He appeared in just nine games for the Blue Jackets last season and contributed one goal and two assists.
