CLEVELAND, Ohio – This year Cleveland Kurentovanje will move to a virtual format.

The Slovenian festival has been held in the St. Clair-Superior district of Cleveland since 2013 and attracts thousands of participants every year. It becomes one of the largest winter events in Northeast Ohio.

These crowds would be of concern due to the coronavirus pandemic, which is why the event has been switched to a digital environment instead.

The same fun that the Slovenian National Hall normally does will still take place in the new virtual format. This year’s festival features live music, cooking demonstrations, a special beer release, and a 5K race. Costumed, blurry Kurentan monsters will also show up as they scare away the winter season and welcome spring.

In addition to the virtual events, the organization has set up a pen pal exchange program and matchmaking activity for singles for February. Runners can also register for a virtual 5K race this month.

Events can be viewed on Facebook, YouTube and the Cleveland Kurentovanje website. They’re free, but some require pre-registration.
