Founded in New Zealand in 2016, Allbirds designs and sells shoes and apparel with environmental awareness at the forefront of its mission. (The slogan is “Light on your feet. Light on the planet”). The first shoe the company released was the Wool Runner, which was made from “New Zealand superfine merino wool” New York Times in a 2017 article that discussed how popular shoes had become in Silicon Valley.
Other materials that the company uses are tree, sugar and trino, which, according to the retailer, are made “from a healthy serving of responsibly harvested eucalyptus tree fibers and a handful of ZQ merino wool”.
Other materials Allbirds uses include recycled nylon and recycled bottles. “A recycled plastic bottle is the same as a pair of Allbirds shoelaces. Reincarnation is a beautiful thing. “
Allbirds has an additional NYC location at 73 Spring Street in Soho.
