1. 1212 House Party: A celebration to mark the opening of Site 1212
The Cincinnati Academy of Fine Arts is holding a house party this weekend to celebrate a major campus expansion with the unveiling of Site 1212 – their new center for community impact – and everyone is invited. The celebrations will take place along the 1200 block of Jackson St. in Over-the-Rhine and on the former BarrelHouse Brewing Co. property Friday, which features live music by the Wussy Duo and receptions for the new Constance McClure exhibition Never a Day Without Drawing, and House Party: Reunion, an exhibition of work by Art Academy alumni.
The party continues from noon to midnight Saturday with music performances by Cincinnati Music Accelerator and Inhailer Radio and a headline performance by Young Heirlooms. Fans of the former BarrelHouse Brewing co. Enjoy micro-crafted vanilla stout created by original BarrelHouse brewmasters Rick Debar and Brian Sprance while viewing a display case of work by Jim Effler, the original illustrator for BarrelHouse’s bottled beer. There will also be vendors, a burlesque show, a Lindsey Whittle fashion show, and ArtWorks OTR walking tours. You can buy groceries from Taste of Belgium, Banging Burgers, and Hoff’s Pretzel Co. 2. Cincinnati Bengals vs. Miami Dolphins Preseason Game
Here’s your chance to get your first personal look at the team as the Cincinnati Bengals play a preseason game against the Miami Dolphins at 4pm Sunday. You can cheer for the team along with other fans at Paul Brown Stadium (One Paul Brown Way, Downtown), or if you’re not quite ready for a stadium backdrop, you can watch the game on CBS at home or in your favorite pub. 3. Swimming in the Great Ohio River by Bill Keating Jr.
This is your opportunity to dive into the Ohio River from the downtown public dock, swim to the Kentucky side of the river and back – approximately half a mile away – while the river is closed to motorized traffic. The Bill Keating Jr. Great Ohio River Swim is a fundraiser for Adventure Crew, a local nonprofit that provides outdoor recreational opportunities for teenagers in the city.
New this year, Double Dippers can swim a 2.5-mile swim downriver along the Ohio coast before joining the traditional 900-meter course. Double Dipper must pledge to raise $ 500 for the Adventure Crew’s swim training program. On-site registration opens at 7 a.m., with mandatory safety instructions in open water at 8 a.m., followed by a start at 8:15 a.m. Sunday. 4. Cincy Vegetable Festival
Nationally and internationally known presenters, musicians, authors, artists and cooks meet on Saturday in Burnet Woods for the Cincy Vegfest, a festival dedicated to the compassionate, vegan life of plants and environmental protection. Enjoy world-class vegan food as you hang out with well-known vegan writers, speakers, and friends as you learn about cooking, nutrition, gardening, and more. There will also be eco-living seminars, discussions on the environment, world peace and compassionate living, practices in mindfulness, meditation, yoga and sacred activism. Great Parks of Hamilton County is hosting the Urban Farming Festival from 2pm to 7pm Saturday at the Great Parks Nature Center at the Summit (1580 Summit Road, Roselawn) with indoor and outdoor activities for all ages. You can learn to incorporate sustainability practices at home, take an urban mini-walking tour, enjoy live music, yoga and meditation classes, chicken meet-and-greets, vendors, a plant swap, s’mores-making, and more. Honorable Mention: Lung Album Release Party
The powerful art-punk duo Lung is celebrating the release of their new album “Come Clean Right Now” – now on SofaBurn Records – with an album release party Saturday Night on Fountain Square (520 Vine St., Downtown). The band – consisting of the classically trained opera singer and electro cellist Kate Wakefield and the drummer Daisy Caplan, formerly Foxy Shazam, Babe Rage and Ayin – starts a North American tour with Mac Sabbath and Speedealer on September 1st.

Honorable Mention: Fur Ball Gala: Disco InFURno
Dust off your leisure suit or eye-catching disco dress and move forward with your movements! The DJ will be playing lots of funky tunes when the Society for the Prevention and Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Cincinnati’s largest fundraiser turns the Sharonville Convention Center into an InFURno disco. The evening includes an open bar, plated dinner, live and silent auctions, raffles, and loads of boogie on the dance floor. You can even play with dolls from the shelter. Also on Saturday, the Contemporary Arts Center (44 E. Sixth St., Downtown) is holding its annual art auction and gala fundraiser FastForward. See original artworks, prints, and more from over three dozen well-known artists and bid on them, enjoy performances and installation art, food, and an open bar. Gala tickets also include entry to NewFuture, the afterparty in the CAC Black Box. There is no formal dress code for the gala, but guests are encouraged to show their own personal concept of futurism. It runs from 6-10 p.m. Saturday.
