YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Saturday rolled in with heavy rainfall and some flooding in the valley. Severe flooding occurred in the Brownlee Woods neighborhood of Youngstown over the weekend.
The neighborhood is right on Midlothian. Many local residents experienced flooded front yards and cellars, and the curb was littered with ruined mattresses, chairs, and photo albums.
A resident told First News that the water on the street was her son’s knees.
“You have a house and you can’t even use your basement because it floods a meter deep and it’s sewage. It’s not just normal water…. It’s sewage and sludge going down your drains, ”said homeowner Lori Mitchum.
Local residents see streets, rain-flooded houses, say they want something done
She has lived in her home for about six years and said the flooding was a constant problem for her and her neighbors. Saturday, her basement had about three feet of sewage in it. She spoke to the plumbing department, who told her the plumbing was working properly.
“I spoke to the plumbing department when they came out today to check the plumbing … when they came out today the water was of course gone … and they are basically telling me that it is working as planned, that there is a severe overflow and it has nowhere else to go, so it goes in your basement, ”said Mitchum.
Mitchum said she is saddened to see all of her neighbors bring items damaged by the flood to the curb and wants her voice to be heard.
“I just want someone to come out and help. Send someone out. There has to be something, ”said Mitchum.
