YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Youngstown area is often referred to as the food wasteland, but a farmers market is held every Saturday in the north of the city offering fresh groceries for the community.
The Northside Farmer’s Market opened in 2003. There you will find fresh fruit and vegetables from at least 15 local producers.
It’s open every Saturday from 10am to 1pm on Elm Street from June to mid-October.
There are also a few local businesses participating, including the Food Incubator, Prepped Wellness, and the Culture House Café.
“We have a lot of sweet corn now, peaches are in season, we are just at the end of the blueberry season, and the summer apples are here and the fall apples are coming,” said Jim Converse, Farmer’s Market Manager and Sustainable Development Coordinator for the local nonprofit Common Wealth.
Converse hopes the farmers’ market will become a north food market so it can continue to grow and serve the community year round.
