CLEVELAND, Ohio – Maybe it’s a sign.
Perhaps there is something cosmic about the fact that a team that has failed to score a significant hit in the last 10 days with runners in the goalscoring position hits three run-homers three times in the last two innings. Perhaps there is an ongoing enthusiasm for the Indians after Franmil Reyes kept mumbling, “Walk Josey. Come on, go with him. Let me get a chance ”in the moments before ending a nine-game losing streak.
Or it’s just the Royals, a team that played for most of 2021 the way the Indians have done for the past week and a half. Triston McKenzie gets another chance tonight to show that he has improved over the past few months with his Nuke LaLoosh imitation. Maybe he’s better, and then either Eli Morgan or Sam Hentges will get enough support to put the Indians on the All-Star break with three out of four wins?
What then, right?
At least the Indians face a pitcher in Brad Keller (6-9, 6.39 ERA, 1.82 WHIP) who is similar to McKenzie (1-4, 6.38 ERA, 1.58 WHIP). Can the Indians find a new hero tonight? Will they have enough energy to actually get an early head start?
