YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – This week’s Hometown Heroes are a mother and daughter duo. You may no longer live in Youngstown, but you will always have the city in your heart and mind.

Giving remotely – it’s easy for Jan Adams and her daughter Ronnette Meyers. They say you never forget where you came from.

“That is what we wanted to do to give back to the community we were born and raised in,” said Adams.

Over Christmas, This dynamic duo teamed up with a local church to give away a gift. One thousand $ 50 gift cards for grocery stores across the area were bought and paid for by Adams and Meyers.

The line of cars was a mile long and led to Alpha and Omega First Baptist Church on the east side of Youngstown.

“Our hearts were so heavy that so many people were in need,” said Adams.

One moment in particular stood out from the crowd – a man who was so grateful to be able to help his family with this generous gift.

He said, ‘You saved me, you saved my life. ‘And that touched my heart,’ said Meyers.

Adams and Meyers are both Washington, DC business owners. Adams left Youngstown at the age of 27 to join the Air Force with her children, which served for 24 years. She grew up in the Sharon line.

“We love Youngstown, it’s our home. I’m never ashamed to tell people it’s my home, ”said Adams.

Meyers also attended elementary school in Youngstown through third grade. The city is never far from their minds.

“Our family and the relationships I built from kindergarten through third grade and that continue to this day are just amazing that every time I come to visit they all show up, even my second grade teacher. It’s amazing, ”said Meyers.

That’s what this community is about.

“Now of course we think about when to return? What do we do next? Asked Admas.
