The women of Flagler College faced Columbus State 74-62 in a women’s basketball game at the Peach Belt Conference Saturday afternoon at the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center.
Columbus State improved overall and 2-1 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference game.
Flagler’s Tori Pearce hit a team high of 17 and a career high of eight assists.
“I thought Columbus State did a great job of constantly switching defenses against us and we just couldn’t get into a rhythm at the end of the offensive,” said Flagler manager Mo Smith. “I was proud of our group and the struggle we had in the fourth quarter to reduce their lead to five.”
Lady Cougars’ Perimeter game played a huge role in deciding the game as it consumed 12 three point points, which was one more than the previous two games combined. Olonna Rawls led Columbus State with five 3-pointers, finishing the game with 22 points. Emilia Tenbrock added four more triples and scored 16 points.
Rawls’ three with 4:18 in the second quarter sparked a 13: 4 run by the Lady Cougars. Columbus State took the lead at 42:35.
A Beka Benge three-ball with 5:33 in the game pulled the Saints to five (63-58) but that was an end as Flagler would get.
N’Mya Pierce posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Jaziana Mathis scored nine points and three steals.
The Saints scored 14 points from 16 Lady Cougar sales. Flagler was kept at the lowest field goal percentage of the season (38.2).
Chrisalyn Boston recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for Columbus State.
The Lady Cougars rushed 14 rebounds on the offensive and scored 18 second chance points.
Flagler is expected to face UNC Pembroke on Wednesday January 20th at 5:30 p.m.
