FC Cincinnati commerce for Florian Valot

HARRISON, New Jersey – Cincinnati FC took a point and a player home from the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday night.

After several exits during the ongoing secondary transfer window, Cincinnati FC have added a new player in Florian Valot via a deal with the New York Red Bulls, multiple sources have confirmed to The Enquirer.

More details of the deal, including what New York will get in return, should be revealed on Thursday.

A Red Bulls spokesman did not respond to The Enquirer’s request for comment.

Valot could potentially cover several areas of need for Cincinnati FC as he can play “No. 10” as a defensive midfielder, in the box-to-box role or at the center of a formation as a possible backup.

The 28-year-old Frenchman would fill an A-squad for FC Cincinnati, but doesn’t need an international squad as he has a green card.

A key player for the Red Bulls in 2020, Valot appeared in all 23 games, starting 17 games and completing more than 1,500 minutes. He also scored two goals and had three assists.

The New York Red Bulls will play against FC Cincinnati in their season opener at the Red Bull Arena on March 1, 2020. Florian Valot # 22 beats Maikel van der Werff with his head. The Red Bulls were leading 2-0 at halftime.

For some league insiders, Valot was a comeback player of the year candidate. The award was won by Bradley Wright-Phillips.

By 2021, Valot’s role in the Red Bulls has shrunk significantly under first grader Gerhard Struber. The player only saw the field for 93 minutes in three missions.

Valot attracted New York’s game against FC Cincinnati on Wednesday, but did not play. The clubs ended goalless.

Valot played in all three games against FC Cincinnati in 2020, starting with the season opener on March 1, 2020 and again in a group game of the MLS Is Back Tournament.

In the MLS Is Back tournament, Valot was credited with an own goal for FC Cincinnati.
