Eight candidates filed petitions by Wednesday deadline to take part in the race to succeed Frank Jackson as Cleveland Mayor.
The list includes long-time officials and first-time candidates who have been preparing for months to give the city its first new mayor in 16 years.
The candidates are:
- Justin Bibb, executive at an urban technology nonprofit
- Ross DiBello, a lawyer
- Basheer Jones Borough Council
- Council President Kevin Kelley
- Dennis Kucinich, the former Congressman and former Mayor of Cleveland
- Former Ward 2 Alderman Zack Reed who unsuccessfully challenged Jackson in 2017
- Landry M. Simmons, a law enforcement officer
- Senator Sandra Williams
The Cleveland charter requires candidate mayors to collect 3,000 signatures from registered city voters. The Cuyahoga County Electoral Committee had not verified all of the petition’s signatures by close of business on Wednesday.
