East Cleveland law enforcement officials arrested

OST-CLEVELAND (WJW) – The FOX 8 I-Team learned two East Cleveland Police officers were arrested and charged with stealing a citizen during a traffic stop.

The Officers were arrested on Friday and charged with theft, but the investigation is ongoing.

Officers Alfonzo Cole and Willie Warner-Simms were transferred to Cuyahoga County Jail. You are threatened with a charge of theft.

East Cleveland Police Chief Scott Gardner said he had received a complaint from someone that officers took money at a traffic stop. The chief called the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office and asked them to investigate.

“As a result of that request and following an initial investigation, two members of the East Cleveland Police Department were arrested. This investigation remains open and ongoing as more evidence, suspects and statements are uncovered, ”said Mary Louise Madigan, spokeswoman for Cuyahoga County.
