YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police are investigating a shooting outside a bar in Youngtown’s Lower West Side that killed two people and wounded at least three others just after 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

In front of the Torch Club Bar & Grill on Salt Springs Road and Elberen Street were dozens of enclosures, as well as a parking lot two doors down where gunfire hit a house.

There was a four car accident across the street from the bar that came after gunfire rang out.

A few blocks east, on the corner of Salt Springs Road and Greenwood Streets, there was a two-car accident that left one person dead and another person hospitalized.

Detectives said some sort of argument had broken out near the Torch Club and there had been “an exchange of fire” in which two were killed and three others were injured. You’re still trying to piece together what happened.

It is not clear whether any of the shooting victims near the Torch Club was involved in the four car accident. Accident investigators were called a few blocks away about the fatal accident that occurred around the same time as the shooting, but Lt. William Ross, head of the traffic unit, said the investigation is just beginning.

Police drove over a dark SUV a few blocks west of the club and arrested the driver. There was also one person who was detained in a cruiser, but it is not clear if he was the driver of the SUV.

The city has recorded 11 murders this year, compared to 13 at the time last year. 42 people were shot and wounded that year, including all 11 murder victims, compared to 28 people shot around that time last year, including 12 of the 13 murder victims.

For 2020, Youngstown recorded 98 gunshot victims, including 27 of 28 murder victims. That was an increase of 40 from 2019 when 58 people were shot, including all 20 murder victims of the year.
