Columbus Mayor stays at dwelling for well being associated causes

COLUMBUS, miss. (WCBI) – Columbus Mayor Robert Smith is staying home for health reasons.

The mayor recently issued a statement saying he will not be in the office until further notice.

He cited medical care as the reason for taking a break.

Late last month, Smith said he was briefly hospitalized but didn’t say why.

Vice Mayor Bill Gavin will step in to fulfill the mayor’s duties.

Smith is up for re-election this year but has no main opponent.
