Paul Neesam set a new 60-yard run record of seven seconds in the age group 13-14 at the Jaycees Junior Champ State Meet in Greendale.
Mike Dickmann, a social studies teacher at Columbus High School, wrote a series of letters to Dean Larson about his experience as a summer volunteer worker in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, Israel. The letters were published in the local newspaper.
A couple of “old” men, Rev. Jerald Wendt and John Tobison, took first place in the Centennial Division at the Downtown Wisconsin Paddle and Portage Canoe Race in Madison. The two local men qualified in a category whose combined age was 100 years or more.

A fundraiser to raise $ 600,000 for Columbus Community Hospital was successful. The money was used to complete a $ 1.2 million long term low interest FmHA loan. The loan assured that the hospital would be locally owned and operated.
Columbus Police Dispatcher Kathy Reese suffered minor injuries when lighting created a surge in the phone she used while on duty at City Hall. The police station was interrupted by the electric shock.
A new restaurant has opened in Columbus in the old Jack’s First Place building. The new owner of the Parkway Restaurant is Jim Schwartz from Beaver Dam.
