Golf starts earlier than other fall sports, so the season is in full swing from August 5th.
On the girls’ side New Albany is trying to extend the series of state championships For four in a row and for boys, Columbus Academy Try to make it 5 straight Junior Steven Ma has the chance to win his personal title for the second time in a row.
Golfers in the Columbus area work mid-season before the playoffs begin in late September. Hence, here are some of the top names to watch out for this fall:
Kary Hollenbaugh, New Albany
Holembo, the Ohio State University commitment, got off to a good start into the senior season with a hole-in-one shot at Lady El Quinvitational in early August. Last year she finished sixth in the state to help the Eagles win the team title.

Along with senior colleague Anna Ritter, who is devoted to Illinois, this duo is an impressive top of the Eagles lineup and will be a strong contender for individual medals in this year’s state.
Columbus Academy, Stephen Ma
The horse won a total of 144 in two rounds at the individual state championships of Division II last fall, three strokes ahead of the runner-up. His round helped the Viking Won the team title 4 years in a rowAnd this fall, expectations of the Columbus Academy and the horses are rising again to have a strong season.
Ellie Lim, Dublin Coffman
Junior Lim was a sophomore sophomore at the Division I District Tournament co-medalist, finishing 29th in the state. Last August, Lim fired 69 and Coffman defeated New Albanys 496 straight wins, giving the Eagles their only match defeat of the entire season. She won all league honors for the second team after she was an average of 74 years old in the OCC Central tournament.

Leo Walling, St. Charles
Walling was freshman only, but last fall he finished 34th with a total of 159 in two rounds. The Cardinals scored 13 straight wins and Walling finished 7th in the CCL, shooting 72-3. As a single state, qualify for the Division I district tournament.
Mia Raines, Olentangy Berlin
As a freshman last fall, Rains won the honor of Team 2 All Ohio, Team 2 All Districts, and Team 1 All OCC Cardinals, scoring 152 points in 10th place in the state. She is a medalist in the section and finished third in the district prior to her performance in the state to end her strong first season in high school golf.
Brett Podbinski, Dublin Jerome
Senior Podbinkushi finished second in the Division I tournament last fall, helping the Celtics finish fourth as a team, finishing 14th in the state. He has developed from 6th place in Jerome in his second year to one of the team leaders as a junior and his expectations for the senior season are high.
Audrey Ryu, Dublin Jerome
Ryu was a second co-player of the OCC Cardinal last season, helping the Celtics win their 16th league championship for the past 17 seasons. Jerome also won Division I, with Ryu shooting 72 and finishing third in the tournament. With just four strokes, she missed the state qualification in a circle.
Luke Johnson, Orentanji Orange
Pioneer was the first state qualification since 2008 last fall, and Johnson helped them get there. He shot 74 to help Orange win the Division I tournament and then shared 14th place in the state with a two-round score of 153 when his team finished sixth. He first focused on golf last summer and it was rewarded for having his best season as a junior.
Emerson Purcell, New Albany
Purcell is a sophomore year, but it’s an important part of the Eagles line-up and has been around since first grade. She finished 10th in the state last fall after shooting 71 in the first round to fight for the lead on the first day of competition. Hollenbo and Ritter will graduate later this season, so expect Purcell to continue their rise and become one of the Eagles leaders in the coming season.
Carson Belish, Pickerton North
Belish became the first golfer in Pickerington North history to shoot every round of the season for the 1970s and below, as they did last fall. His average of 72.6 set a program record and he shot 69 in three rounds. He was named OCC Ohio Player of the Year in 2020 and won or occupied seven tournaments during the season. For the second year in 2019, he was a medalist in the Division I District.
