COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – The Columbus Crew have signed Gahanna-born Saad Abdul-Salaam, a seven-year-old MLS veteran defender who last played for Cincinnati FC.

The 29-year-old Abdul-Salaam has played a total of 94 games in the regular MLS season, scoring one goal and 11 assists. The full-back is also a 2019 MLS Cup winner during his tenure at Seattle Sounders FC.

“We are delighted to welcome Saad back to his home club,” said Tim Bezbatchenko, President and General Manager of Crew SC, in a statement. “Saad is a defender whose versatility as a player and proven experience in our league will make him a valuable part of our squad, especially when we deal with game jams this season. We are very excited to be working with Saad and look forward to adding him to the team. “

Abdul-Salaam was drafted from Sporting Kansas City with the 12th overall victory in the 1st round of the 2015 MLS Draft. He spent three seasons at Sporting Kansas City, playing 64 regular season games from 2015 to 2017.

In addition to his time with Kansas City, Abdul-Salaam played for New York City FC (2018), Seattle Sounders FC (2019) and FC Cincinnati (2020). During his tenure at Sounders FC, the defender helped the Western Conference team win the 2019 MLS Cup.
