To say that the Cleveland Indians‘Offense being anemic would be a bit of an understatement. Only three players on the roster have an OPS + over 80, which explains why the Indians rank 14th in the American League in runs scored. If Cleveland competes this season, it’s because of the pitching staff.

There is talent in the lineup, however. While Jose Ramirez may get the majority of the attention, there is one other player who turns out to be a potential star. Franmil Reyes has become a core part of the lineup.

Cleveland Indians have a rising star in Franmil Reyes

Reyes was the Indians second best batsman this season and made an impressive duo with Ramirez. He has produced a hit line of .279 / .308 / .616 in his 91 record appearances this season, which includes seven homers and four doubles.

His numbers in the last 162 games testify to the type of player he is developing into. In that 162-game period, Reyes has produced a .267 / .330 / .498 strike line that hits 26 doubles and 34 homers. This is the kind of production that the Indians desperately need in the midst of their line-up in order to find viable options with the bat.

There are some concerns with Reyes. He’s made 33% of his record appearances this season while only seeing a 3.3% gait rate. Both odds are worse than his career norms, but both watch this season. Should these prices return to their averages, Reyes could do even better this season.

Reyes will turn 26 mid-season and is just nearing his hypothetical prime. If his performance so far is any indication, he’s just starting to become a player who can make a huge difference in any line-up, not just in Cleveland.

The Cleveland Indians may have a rising star in their lineup. Franmil Reyes has been impressive this year and he could get even better.
