The Cleveland Browns reached a deal with free agent wide receiver Davion Davis, who will take the squad position of wide receiver Derrick Willies on Friday, who was put on injured reserve on Friday.

Davis was brought in to attend the team’s mini camp after playing with the Spring League. Davis played with the Spring League Blues last season.

He attended Sam Houston State and spent time with the Minnesota Vikings as a member of the training team in 2019. He appeared in two regular season games that year but did not record any statistics.

After the 2019 season, Davis was signed a futures contract, which he would eventually give up in August of the 2020 season. The Spring League has allowed players like Davis to take a different look at NFL teams.

5’11 “and a little under 200 pounds, Davis has a massive frame and good agility for the position. Its speed wasn’t particularly impressive, at least when testingwhich suggests that it will likely operate in the slot for the most part.

Davis is now joining former teammate wide receiver Alexander Hollins, who was also previously with the Vikings before the Browns asked him to waive late last season.

Kevin Stefanski, the Browns head coach, is at least somewhat familiar with both, having trained with the Vikings before assuming the position of head coach in Cleveland.

The Browns will continue training camp drills on Saturday to prepare for the upcoming season.
