Cincinnati Reds second baseman begins second season


Mike Moustakas, one of Cincinnati Reds’ major free agent signings ahead of the 2020 seasonI got to see the field in different positions – 31 games on the second base, eight on the first, two on the third and two as the team’s designated batsman.

He hit .230 last season, good for third place among the normal players, and finished second on the team with eight doubles and third with 27 RBI.

The Reds have to hope the three-time All-Star regains the same form that led him to hit 35 homers with the Brewers in 2019 and 38 with the Royals in 2017.

Moustakas joins former Reds players Darnell McDonald, Josh Hamilton and Homer Bailey and former Reds Minor Leaguer Drew Henson be named Baseball America’s High School Player of the Year.

He won the award after a senior season at Chatsworth High School in California, where He hit .577 with a national record of 24 home runs in a season. He also set a state record with 52 career homers.

Him and high school teammates Matt Dominguez were both first-round picks in the 2007 MLB draft.
