(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – A Cincinnati man was convicted of his involvement in a fatal crash in Dearborn County.
Jeb McGeorge, 21, pleaded guilty on March 4 of operating a vehicle on a List I or II substance that causes death and operating a vehicle on a List I or II substance that causes catastrophic injuries.
The charges arose from a June 27, 2020 crash that killed Alejandra Aguero-Vazquez and seriously injured her fiancé Carlos Solis.
According to court records, McGeorge was under the influence of THC, clonazepam and Xanax and was traveling at high speed on the wrong side of the US 50 at the time of the crash.
After hearing testimony, Judge Jonathan Cleary sentenced McGeorge to 18 years in prison. In the conviction, the state pointed out the following aggravating factors:
- McGeorge caused the death of one victim and the catastrophic injury of another.
- McGeorge traveled back to Ohio after giving marijuana to a person in Dearborn County.
- McGeorge did not have a prescription for clonazepam and alprazolam and bought the drugs illegally.
- McGeorge was smoking marijuana before the crash.
- McGeorge had been on the opposite side of a split freeway for so long that several emergency calls could be made before the crash.
- McGeorge immediately tried to delete text messages discussing his drug deals and drug use.
“While I’m glad justice has been done, nothing will bring Alejandra back to her family,” said prosecutor Lynn Deddens. “There is a community, a family and a fiancé that they miss very much.”
