CINCINNATI – The worst-case scenario for the University of Cincinnati Athletics for reorienting the conference is if nothing happens for the next several years.
The Bearcats are there the early stages of a five-year window by upgrading their conference membership – and the television money that comes with it – or risking being left indefinitely behind the top-heavy hierarchy of college sports. Stasis is UC’s greatest opponent in this high-stakes power struggle. If, in the next few years, all of the power conferences and power brokers took a good hard look at the hands that were assigned to them without anyone choosing to up the ante, it would spell bad news for the Bearcats.
Lucky for her, that doesn’t seem to be happening. Texas, Oklahoma and the SEC Pretty much sure the realignment wheel is going again. Exactly what that looks like, and how and when it turns out, remains somewhat unclear, but the jarring has given Cincinnati the chance it needs. Initial signs suggest the Bearcats are recognizing this internally as well, with sources at The Athletic University telling that Cincinnati has been proactive and assertive about the realignment since the news was announced last week, and has been committed to serving the best interests of the To uphold the program.
