The Cincinnati Bengals workouts have done a lot of good in the last month or so.
While not all was open to the media, plenty of clips, coaching interviews, and more gave fans a pretty good idea of who got their attention early on in this summer trial
With Zac Taylor calling for an early end to the mandatory portions of the final workouts, let’s take a look at some of the players who generate the most hype from these sessions.
Cincinnati Bengals recipient Pooka Williams Jr., 36, will start Tuesday, Jan.

The Bengals tossed substantial money to Williams, an undrafted free agent. That seemed to indicate big plans. And now he already has special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons challenging his name as a contender in the race for setbacks. He doesn’t win, but it’s pretty good for an undrafted free agent to have a coordinator talking about him as early as June.

When the Bengals first added Taylor, it was a ho-hum thing. He has a lot of versatility but is having a hard time staying as Wideout is such a deep position. But Simmons also mentioned Taylor – if he didn’t say he might have some reference to the job that is bringing the boats back. It’s one way of staying in an Alex Erickson-type role.

Defense coordinator Lou Anarumo went out of his way to praise Wilson during a recent meeting with the media. This is a great sign for a younger player who the team hope can be the heart and soul of their defense for the future. Wilson showed big lightning bolts last year, but it sounds like the coaches are expecting more this summer and into the fall.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins (85) makes Tuesday Jan.

Perhaps no non-burrow player has had more hype lately than Higgins. He’s apparently bigger than last season, but just as quick and catches anything that gets in his way. It’s not too shocking to see a sophomore player reaching their physical potential after a year with professional nutritionists and coaches. But the beauty of the new # 85 is the fact that it put up such great numbers last year – this month just seemed to confirm that it was just getting started.

Chase actually had a pretty quiet month in Cincinnati – at least compared to what a fifth overall win would normally get in a year if his star quarterback didn’t return from injury. Even so, the treats everyone received were encouraging. Chase showed up at his announced dimensions and quickly began to put some of that nasty skill level on the defenders. It is said that the coaches were impressed with how quickly he took up the offensive.

You could just type in Burrow’s name and leave it at that, right? The fact that he even showed up and threw the ball in May was impressive. But he also rolled out of his pocket at speed, and his guns couldn’t help but rave about how much more speed he got on the ball after spending his rehab changing his throwing movements and working on strength. It was as beautiful as it gets for Burrow, which triggers an avalanche of hype.
