YOUNGSTOWN – The Mahoning Valley Mobile Market Initiative launched Tuesday to bring groceries to the city’s most vulnerable.
The initiative will sponsor a bus that will go to different parts of the city so people can buy healthy food at low prices.
“We want to make it so comfortable and convenient … above all [for] our most vulnerable and disabled people, ”said Rose Carter, General Manager of ACTION.
Vicki Vicars, an organizer of ACTION, said the initiative aims to raise approximately $ 500,000.
Vicars said about $ 200,000 will be used to buy the bus, hire someone to manage the bus, and buy groceries to store the bus. Approximately $ 300,000 would be used to create a voucher program so that people with economic disadvantage and health problems can purchase groceries from the vehicle for free.
The Mobile Market is powered by grants, private donors and Individuals in the community.
The mobile market is scheduled to open in early 2022.
