CLEVELAND – Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is set to shine again with the return of the record breaking Asian Lantern Festival this summer.

Starting July 14, the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will transform itself with over 1,000 new lighted lanterns, aromatic live performances, and culturally-inspired cuisine.

For the fourth time in the zoo, guests can look forward to new experiences with more than 70 illuminated large displays with over 1,000 lanterns.

The time-limited event outside of business hours will take place from Thursday to Sunday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. until September 5.

“The Cleveland Asian Lantern Festival has become a staple of summer in Cleveland, attracting over 150,000 guests each year to experience the wonder of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo after dark,” said Kelly Manderfield, Cleveland Metroparks chief marketing officer. “We are grateful for the tremendous support from Meijer to enable a completely new festival with new lanterns, performances and experiences in the fourth year of the event.”

Every hour there will be live performances with acrobatics such as foot juggling, contortion and martial arts. Guests can also visit the Asian craft market and sample a wide variety of inspired cuisines from local favorites like Li Wah, King Wah, and more.

For those who would like to experience the event from the comfort of their vehicle, there will be a limited number of drive-through options on Wednesday evening.

Giant lanterns are new to this year’s event, including the towering four-story Taj Mahal, as well as walk-in experiences like the Python Tunnel, Chinese Dragon, and Wisteria Corridor.

Interactive lanterns such as the butterfly garden and the star pad allow guests to illuminate displays themselves.
