CANFIELD – Plans for a new building that will teach the latest electronics installation and repair technology will help students at Mahoning County’s Career and Technology Center now and in the future.
The school is building a 30-foot by 30-foot facility to expand courses on heating and air conditioning, installing and using solar panels, generating electricity with wind turbines, and installing electric car charging stations.
The new building will stand alone at the school at 7300 N. Palmyra Road. Courses introducing 11th grade students to the electrical industry will remain in place.
“Older students will use the new building to learn about green energy devices, flex ducts, etc.,” said Kory Cooper, 33, an instructor for MCCTC’s electrical repair program.
“Using green energy seems to be the future, so we want graduates of this program to have the knowledge and skills to work with these resources,” said Cooper. “Because the current building is built like this, we couldn’t use solar panels or wind turbines. We’ll be able to use them in the new building. “
