YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A person is dead Sunday morning after an overnight crash in Youngstown that happened.

The accident occurred late Saturday evening around 11:54 p.m. near the intersection of Albert Street and McGuffey Road
According to a report, YPD attempted to stop a 19-year-old driver at the intersection of Albert Street and the Himrod Expressway exit for a traffic violation.
The driver tried to evade the police and eventually hit another vehicle on Albert Street.
The driver of the other vehicle was identified as Darius Shackleford, 24.
Police say they have to use the “jaws of life” to cut off the roof and get a driver out.
Shackleford was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.
The 19-year-old who was driving the other vehicle involved in the accident was not injured. At the time of the accident there was also a 17-year-old boy with the fleeing driver.
Shackleford was part of the YSU Penguins football program from 2015-2020.

The Youngstown Police Accident Investigation Unit, Detectives, Internal Affairs and Mahoning County Coroner Bureau are investigating the incident.
