This year College Now is aiming to recruit 850 volunteers for its mentoring program. We are proud to announce that 46 volunteers signed up for their campaign to become mentors during the launch of their campaign on Mentor Monday.
During Mentor Monday, We have broadcast a variety of stories All of our newscasts feature the College Now program. Story topics included mentoring during one pandemicSupporting first generation college students and connecting young professionals with students. We have also stated that College Now, an organization that connects people of all ages with college resources, is responsible for providing mentors to its program participants and to students in the EU say yes College readiness program too.
This means that a lot of mentors are needed – this is why 3News supports efforts to recruit mentors every year.
“Mentor Monday is critical to raising awareness about Say Yes and the mentoring program,” said Madeline Rife, director of the College Now Services Model mentoring program. The program will not be rewarding for students – or for the community – if the students fail to graduate from college. ”
Through Mentor Monday, our station has recruited more than 500 mentors over the past two years. Our own moderator and editor-in-chief, Russ Mitchell, is himself a mentor and a key leader in our annual campaign. As Mitchell attests, you can make a huge impact on a young person’s life simply by becoming a mentor.
“That’s why mentoring is so important,” says Rife. “Our students have degrees that are 20 percentage points above the national average for their peer group.”
