Helen J. Washington, Youngstown, Ohio Obituary


YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Ms. Helen J. Washington, 96, of Youngstown, moved to her heavenly home at the hospice home on Friday, April 16, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Washington was born in Youngstown on March 1, 1925, to Charles P. Sr. and Jerusha Gatewood Terrell.

She graduated from Scienceville High School in 1943.

She had been a riveter at the Ravenna Arsenal and had worked as a house technician for many years, and had retired in 1996.

Helen was a loyal member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.

She leaves to mourn her death but to enjoy her eternal rest and peace, two sisters, Delores Fowler and Jacqueline (Sherwood) Armor; a granddaughter, Teri Lynne Butler; her niece and guardian, Sandra Williams, from all over Youngstown; Brother-in-law Norman Phillips; three sponsored children, Sharon Luke, Nicole Polley and Keith Phillips Jr .; a dear neighbor and friend Helen Pack; other family, church family and friends.

In addition to her parents, her husband Curtis E. Washington died before her, whom she married on October 10, 1953 and who died on March 6, 1996. two daughters, Esther Washington and Rose Marie Butler; two sisters, Celestine Phillips and Mildred Phillips; four brothers, Charles, Kenneth, Ralph and Alvin Terrell and a brother-in-law, James Fowler.

The visitation will take place on Monday, April 26, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Tabernacle Baptist Church. The funeral service begins immediately after the visit.

Due to the pandemic, everyone is asked to wear a mask and observe social distancing. To ensure the health and safety of all, please do not remain in the church after the viewing.
