An annual swap meet is set to take place in Columbus this weekend and, according to a tourism official, will mark the start of a boom for the local economy.
The 37th annual Racers Winter Swap Meet will take place on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Ag Park, 822 15th St. Entry is $ 5.
It is organized by Scott Angel of Dirt Crown Promotions, a small advertising and marketing company based in Hebron.
“We have people from Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas, California, Idaho, South Dakota, and of course Nebraska bringing booths,” he noted.
Those who take part in the swap will see used parts, race car builders, safety equipment, air boats, tools, trailers, and ATV / UTV equipment, Angel said. Non-racing related items, such as woodworking and tin signs, will also be available to “anyone just looking for tricky stuff”.
“Whether you want to decorate your house or your garage, I think there will be things for you,” he said.
Directed health measures currently imposed by the state limit indoor spaces to 75% of occupancy. However, given the size of Ag Park, this is not a problem.
“I don’t think we need to worry about that in Ag Park and where we are … because no matter where we look, we will be among ourselves because of the space we have,” Angel said, Noting that the cabins will be located in both the front and rear rooms of the building. Masks are recommended but not required, he said.
