YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Youngstown State softball team won the Horizon League regular season championship with a 3-1 win over Cleveland State on Saturday.

The former defensive end of Youngstown State signs an uncovered free agent contract with the AFC South team

The two teams fought for additional innings, each allowing only one run until the eighth inning.

At the end of eighth place, Avrey Schumacher hit a walkable, two-part home run to the left field to give the penguins the victory.

It was Schumacher’s only hit of the game.

Elle Buffenbarger threw a gem for YSU, throwing a full game, allowing only one run with eight hits and nine spikes.

Youngstown State will now host the Horizon League tournament after the regular season is over.
