There have been significant events throughout history that stand out because they changed the course of history. The murders of Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr. are just a few moments in history that changed our lives and thoughts. During World War II, the day Allied forces stormed the beaches of Nazi-controlled France, the day eventually marked the end of World War II.
June 6, 1944 was the day Allied troops set out across the English Channel to overtake Nazi-controlled France. This would allow the troops to advance further inland to recapture the Nazi-controlled areas. Before June 6, the Allies were working together on a plan to mislead the Nazis about the impending invasion plan. The actual plan of the invasion was known as “Operation Overlord”. The Allies trained extensively prior to the day known as D-Day to ensure success. June 5th was the actual date for the invasion; however, bad weather delayed their plan on the 6th.
Without the sacrifices and the plentiful courage of the Allied troops, the Second World War would have dragged on and lost many more lives.
