YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Reverend Lorans Jones, 85, of Youngstown entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 17, 2021.
Rev. Jones was born on August 29, 1935 in Hernando, Mississippi, De Soto County, to Rev. James R. Jones and Jessie B. Sims Jones.
His formal education began at Cane Creek Elementary School in Memphis, Tennessee, Shelby County. After his family moved to Ohio during the Great Migration, he attended East High School, where he graduated. He attended Youngstown State University, where he majored in music and minor in singing. During his time at YSU he was a member of the Dunbar Chorus. He also sang with the Philharmonic Symphony Choir under the direction of conductor Franz Bibo. In 1979 he graduated from Central Bible College with a bachelor’s degree in theology.

In 1966 he was reunited with the former Betty J. Pincham in Holy Matrimony.
Rev. Jones was a member of Phillips Chapel CME Church, where he served in the male choir, served as a Sunday School teacher, and worked with the youth. Rev. Jones served as the CME pastor, during which time he pastored Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Warren, Ohio, Fairmount, West Virginia, Steubenville, Ohio, Cambridge, Ohio, and Cleveland, Ohio. In 2009 he retired from the full-time pastorate. One of many highlights in his life was when Rev Mother Elizabeth Powell asked him to serve with her in the World Fellowship Interdenominational Church. This was a task he was honored and humbled to accomplish!
He withdrew from US Steel, Inc. He was also an independent entrepreneur for the Lorans Jones Moving Company for many years.
He was a former member of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, where he previously served as secretary. He also served as the block guard captain of his local neighborhood block guard.
He was in an archery club. He liked to play the piano and sing. He was an avid reader, especially the Bible. Occasionally, he blesses his family with delicious sweet potato pies that he would bake over the holidays! He spent part of his retirement visiting the sick and the trapped. He devoted much time to prayer and praying for others. This ministry is carried on by his family.
He leaves his beloved wife and Queen Betty J. Pincham Jones to mourn his death, but to rejoice in his eternal peace; his children Camille, Jessica, and Lorans; two nieces he raised like his own daughters, Vera Clark and Karen Clark-Bolden; a sister, Elizabeth; a brother-in-law, H. Howard Pincham, Sr.; three grandchildren, Raya Jones, Lelia Jones, and Joziah Jones, and special grandchildren, Maurice Clark and Danielle Clark, and a host of other relatives and friends, and daughters and sons in the faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in his death by his sister Rainey Mae Solomon and Minister Ellen Young, with whom he grew up.
The office hours are on Friday, August 27th from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with a homecoming ceremony beginning immediately at 11:00 AM at the New Bethel Baptist Church. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all guests are asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing. For the health and safety of everyone, we ask guests not to stay in the church after the service.
